Traditional Viking Stones

Vikings recorded their stories by painting pictures on stones. Design and paint your own stone to take away of Viking Battles, Gods and Monsters.

Sessions run 11am – 1pm and 2pm – 4pm.

As part of the Eboracum Roman Festival, enjoy daily Roman Ghost Cellar Tours at Treasurer’s House in York. Tours take place 1-4 June each day at 11.30am, 12.30pm, 1pm, 2.30pm and 3.30pm lasting approx. 30 minutes.

Adults £4.00, children (5+) £3.50. Pre-booking advised due to limited capacity – please call the venue directly on 01904 624247.

Join one of our costumed guides on our famous Victorian street Kirkgate every day at 11.45am and 3.00pm for a free 15 minute informal talk.

Each talk is different but will provide an introduction to Kirkgate, the history of York Castle Museum, and the objects on display, as well as the people who lived and worked in York during the Victorian period of 1870-1901.

Waking the Dead: A Walk through the Cemeteries of Roman York

Join John Oxley (City Archaeologist at City of York Council) for ‘Waking the Dead’, a walk through the cemeteries of Roman York. Discover how and where the Romans buried their dead in – or rather outside – Roman York, and learn about Roman burial practices and the way the Romans thought about death and the afterlife.

The walk will start at 5.30pm in Exhibition Square and end at Blossom Street, taking approximately 90 minutes.
