Early Years Explorers - Vikings

Early Years Explorers – Activities for children aged two to five years old which include songs, stories, games and craft activities. Sessions are based on familiar preschool play areas, which are enhanced to help children learn about the gallery’s collections and exhibitions through play. Sessions are a mixture of free flow and adult led activities which all relate to the Early Years curriculum.

Vikings – Dress as a Viking, play with the Viking snap cards and make a card Viking long boat model.

Join one of our costumed guides on our famous Victorian street Kirkgate every day at 11.45am and 3.00pm for a free 15 minute informal talk.

Each talk is different but will provide an introduction to Kirkgate, the history of York Castle Museum, and the objects on display, as well as the people who lived and worked in York during the Victorian period of 1870-1901.

Engaging with the Arts: Creativity and Wellbeing. As part of the national initiative Creativity and Wellbeing Week 2017, Griselda Goldsbrough draws upon the works in this year’s Art Prize to explore the different ways in which we can benefit from engaging with the arts throughout our lives.

Viking: Rediscover the Legend – The Vikings are Coming – Join us for an introduction to our new Viking exhibition. This immersive one hour talk from the Curator of Archaeology, Natalie Buy, will take you through the early years of the Viking invasions. Enjoy the opportunity to handle artefacts as you learn what drove the Norsemen to invade Anglo-Saxon Eoforwic and ultimately, how this led to the formation of Britain.

Leisure Land Golf Launch – Thu 15 Jun 2017

Leisure Land Golf Launch

Venue: York Museum Gardens

Join us for a summer evening of art, golf, fizz and canapes at the launch of York Art Gallery’s new exhibition, Doug Fishbone’s Leisure Land Golf.

Leisure Land Golf is a fully playable mini-golf course, with each golf hole designed and made by a different artist from the contemporary art world. Following a successful Art Happens campaign, York Art Gallery are delighted to bring Doug Fishbone’s Leisure Land Golf to the Artists Garden this summer.

Tickets are £15 plus booking fee which includes a glass of prosecco, canapes and unlimited mini-golf.

Any proceeds will be put towards supporting improvements in the York Museum Gardens.

Doug Fishbone’s Leisure Land Golf is a touring exhibition by New Art Exchange (NAE), Nottingham. The Exhibition was originally commissioned by EM15, a collective of arts organisations from the East Midlands, for the #56 Venice Biennale.
