CANCELLED - Early Years Explorers - Prehistory

Early Years Explorers – Activities for children aged two to five years old which include songs, stories, games and craft activities. Sessions are based on familiar preschool play areas, which are enhanced to help children learn about the gallery’s collections and exhibitions through play. Sessions are a mixture of free flow and adult led activities which all relate to the Early Years curriculum.

Prehistory – Make a prehistoric cave painting, dress up as cave people, and hunt the wild animals.

Join one of our costumed guides on our famous Victorian street Kirkgate every day at 11.45am and 3.00pm for a free 15 minute informal talk.

Each talk is different but will provide an introduction to Kirkgate, the history of York Castle Museum, and the objects on display, as well as the people who lived and worked in York during the Victorian period of 1870-1901.

Art After the Internet. Dr Cadence Kinsey, Lecturer in Recent & Contemporary Art at the University of York, investigates the relationship between art and technology. She will identify the opportunities and challenges presented by the digital age and how artists are responding to technological advancements.

Join Professor Tim Barringer for a fascinating talk entitled ‘Aspiring to the Condition of Music: Albert Moore and Synaesthesia’ in association with the current Albert Moore exhibition at York Art Gallery. Professor Barringer is Paul Mellon Professor of the History of Art at Yale University and is currently an Honorary Visiting Professor at the University of York.

This event takes place in the TA Hall at the Yorkshire Museum.
