Join one of our costumed guides on our famous Victorian street Kirkgate every day at 11.45am and 3.00pm for a free 15 minute informal talk.

Each talk is different but will provide an introduction to Kirkgate, the history of York Castle Museum, and the objects on display, as well as the people who lived and worked in York during the Victorian period of 1870-1901.

Join one of our knowledgeable volunteers every Tuesday and Thursday for a free talk from 12pm. The subject will vary but will relate to one of the displays in the museum.

York St Mary’s is currently home to a new contemporary art installation called ‘The Dark Self’. Join us for this special event to hear from artist Susan Aldworth. Susan will be talking about her inspiration for the project and the people she collaborated with to make the work, including how she found the 414 embroiderers to work on the collaborative ‘1001 Nights’ installation.
