Join one of our costumed guides on our famous Victorian street Kirkgate every day at 11.45am and 3.00pm for a free 15 minute informal talk.

Each talk is different but will provide an introduction to Kirkgate, the history of York Castle Museum, and the objects on display, as well as the people who lived and worked in York during the Victorian period of 1870-1901.

Please note that talks are subject to the availability of our guides.

Join in our creative writing workshops with local writer Griselda Goldsbrough taking inspiration and themes from the museum’s First World War and other displays. All levels of experience welcome for these monthly sessions geared to improving your writing technique and confidence.

See the fabulous Annie Gray, historian, cook, lecturer, popular broadcaster, writer & consultant as she takes a look at chocolate through the ages. You are invited to join us on Kirkgate, our recreated Victorian street for ‘In Due Praise of Chocolate: Drinking, eating and cooking the divine bean in Georgian England.’ From 17th century liquid gold, to 20th century snacking, Annie will look at chocolate in all its glory. There might even be a taste of the ‘liquid gold’ if you’re lucky!
