LGBT History Roadshow: Bringing History out of the Closet – Sat 7 Feb 2015

Come along and share stories, memories, keepsakes and objects with curators and archivists to help us understand the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender history of York.

This event is in collaboration with York City Archives to celebrate Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender History Month.

Free Event, no need to book. Museum admission applies.

1pm Welcome – Ali Bodley, Senior Curator of History and Archaeology 5 mins

1.05pm York and the LGBT Community – a drag queens perspective, Queenie Buffy AKA James Massie 10 -15mins

1.25pm How museums have display LGBT issues past and present (including showing what objects we have)– Philip Newton, Assistant Curator of History – 15 mins

1.40pm Tea and Buns

1.55pm Show and Share – one group or separately Philip, Students, York Archives

3.00pm  How can museums better represent LGTB Communities Philip and flip chart
– What language should we use
– What objects/ archive material should we collect
– Display/ events ideas exchange
