Making a Visit

Our schools programme is currently suspended due to social distancing restrictions at our sites.  York Castle Museum and York Art Gallery are currently open for pre-booked timed tours/tickets only.  We expect the Yorkshire Museum to remain closed until April next year.

The rates listed below are for groups of a minimum of 10.

York Castle Museum

Child – £4.50
Student – £5.00
Accompanying Adult within supervision ratio (see below) – Free
Additional Adult – £7.00
Under 5s – Free


Yorkshire Museum

Child – £4.00
Student – £4.00
Accompanying Adult within supervision ratio (see below) – Free
Additional Adult – £5.50
Under 5s – Free.


York Art Gallery

Child – £3.00
Student – £4.00
Accompanying Adult within supervision ratio (see below) – Free
Additional Adult – £5.00
Under 5s – Free.


Please note that free admission for groups only applies to City of York council funded schools.



Accompanying adults within our supervision ratios receive free admission. We request that school groups stick to the following ratios:

Nursery – One adult per four children
Key Stage 1 & 2 – One adult per six children
Key Stage 3 & 4 – One adult per 10 students


Preliminary visits

We recommend that group organisers make a preliminary visit to discuss their visit with the learning team. Teachers receive a free family ticket for their preliminary visit.

We require a minimum of two weeks notice of cancellations for sessions not to be charged in full.

If you are running late on the day we ask that you call 01904 687633 to let us know your expected arrival time and if
your group are 30 minutes late for your booked workshop/s you will be charged £30.00 (per 30 minutes) to cover our costs.


Health and Safety and Public Liability Insurance

Our Planning Your Visit guide for groups is sent out to all booked groups, which includes information on health & safety and our public liability insurance.

Coach Parking

Unfortunately there is no coach parking or drop-off points available at our sites. Coaches are recommended to make use of the coach parks in the city centre. Click here for more information about coach parks in the city. Under certain circumstances, coaches can drop-off outside our sites – ask for information when making your booking.

Prayer Space

Although we do not currently offer designated prayer spaces at our sites, please ask a member of staff if this is something you require and they’ll try to find an appropriate space for you.
