This workshop, inspired by The BFG in Pictures, will introduce you to some simple, creative and playful ways of making drawings without using the traditional pencil on white paper.

We’ll help to get you started so you can enjoy the experience of having a go and seeing what happens. We will do a series of quick drawings using different techniques, then you can choose your favourite technique for your own drawing.

The event is £5 per person and gallery admission applies. Book your tickets here.

About the workshop instructor: Emma Metcalfe is a children’s educational illustrator who likes to bring learning to life with humorous characters. She draws her work by hand using ink and a scratchy dip pen and then adds colour by hand or digitally, or both.

Movement and Meaning – Thu 4 Oct 2018

Movement and Meaning

Date: Thursday 4 October 2018, 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Venue: York St Mary's

In this workshop– a collaboration between My Castle Gateway and York Castle Museum – we explore how everyday movement (on foot, on bike, in a wheelchair, with a push chair, in a bus or car) and the rich significance of the local area can be combined.

The workshop will combine a walk through the site, exploring the key issues of movement and connection and key aspects of the history and heritage of the site. We will look at the current buildings, spaces and connections as well as consider the importance of those now gone. Throughout we will be asking: How can movement and meaning be combined in the architecture and public spaces around York Castle Museum?

The workshop – along with a series of other events – will inform an open community brief for the architects working on the development of the York Castle Museum.
