Explore what life was like during World War One through self-guided activities.

Activities include:

– sending information using flags (an activity called ‘Semaphore’)

– testing First Aid skills using teddy bears

– designing a campaign poster

Daily 10am-1pm and 2pm-4pm, apart from Monday 6th and Friday 17th of August.

Learn facts and myths that surround these amazing sea creatures. Enjoy craft and drawing activities in our labs.

Plaster Fossils

Make a fossil using plaster (under the guidance of our learning staff) and take it home to paint.

Be inspired by the Friends of York Art Gallery, who are celebrating their 70th anniversary this year with a special exhibition of their favourite works. See which one is your favourite and draw your own version, then visit our Wish List Wall to add your ideas for new artworks.

If you’re completing the Arts Award then don’t forget to collect your sticker when you’ve completed your drawing.

This activity takes place daily from 1 to 31 August, 11am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm.

Included in admission, no need to book.

Songbox – Wed 22 Aug 2018

Songbox

Songbox – plants on the move, in time and space.

This is a lively, interactive guided tour of York’s Museum Gardens, Edible Wood and The Plant Pavillion investigating plant evolution.

This event is free and open to all ages, including children with their parent or carer. Meet at The Plant Pavillion on the Artists Garden.

Pollinarium Activities

Prior to the arrival of The Pollinarium (a family friendly, audio-visual installation commissioned by York Mediale, York Museums Trust and Invisible Dust) there will be a variety of family friendly events, workshops and activities held in the Artists Garden.

As part of these events, structures will be built containing a variety of plants, to be looked after by members of the local community during August. These structures will form the entrance and walkway of The Pollinarium when it arrives in late September.
