‘When the World Changed Forever’ Trail – Sat 1 Sep 2018

Follow our trail to find letters and objects in the 1914 exhibition. Discover them all for a fun sticker prize!

50p per trail with reward sticker.

Explore at Castle – Sat 1 Sep 2018

Venue: York Castle Museum

Explore what life was like during World War One through self-guided activities.

Activities include:

– sending information using flags (an activity called ‘Semaphore’)

– testing First Aid skills using teddy bears

– designing a campaign poster

Daily 10am-1pm and 2pm-4pm, apart from Monday 6th and Friday 17th of August.

Street’s Alive – Up Our Street – Sat 1 Sep 2018

Be amazed as Kirkgate comes alive, sending visitors to a forgotten age. Who will you meet ‘Up Our Street?’

Perhaps Dolly White the washerwoman? She’s never short of gossip or chores to do, and might need help with all her washing!

Look out for all our characters across the summer and get involved in their daily lives.

Be a dinosaur detective and solve the mystery of which dinosaur has been up to no good.

There’s no need to book and admission is included with museum entry.

11am – 1pm & 2pm – 4pm.

Sea Dragons: Fact and Fiction

Learn facts and myths that surround these amazing sea creatures. Enjoy craft and drawing activities in our labs.

There’s no need to book and admission is included with museum entry.

11am – 1pm & 2pm – 4pm.

Plaster Fossils

Make a fossil using plaster (under the guidance of our learning staff) and take it home to paint.

There’s no need to book and admission is included with museum entry.

11am – 1pm & 2pm – 4pm.

Get Buzzing – Sat 1 Sep 2018

Get buzzing at The Plant Pavillion.

What’s it like to be a bee? Or a butterfly? Or a wasp? Find out through laughter, rhythm and rhyme with Anneliese Emmans Dean, winner of the 2017 York Culture Award for Excellence in Writing.

Listen to, join in with and create your own pollinator poems as we explore the plants and creatures in The Plant Pavillion and the wider Museum Gardens beyond.

This activity is free and open to children aged 5-11. All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Meet at The Plant Pavillion on the Artists Garden.
