Explore what life was like during World War One through self-guided activities.

Activities include:

– sending information using flags (an activity called ‘Semaphore’)

– testing First Aid skills using teddy bears

– designing a campaign poster

Daily 10am-1pm and 2pm-4pm, apart from Monday 6th and Friday 17th of August.

Be amazed as Kirkgate comes alive, sending visitors to a forgotten age. Who will you meet ‘Up Our Street?’

Perhaps Dolly White the washerwoman? She’s never short of gossip or chores to do, and might need help with all her washing!

Look out for all our characters across the summer and get involved in their daily lives.

Be a dinosaur detective and solve the mystery of which dinosaur has been up to no good.

Sea Dragons: Fact and Fiction

Learn facts and myths that surround these amazing sea creatures. Enjoy craft and drawing activities in our labs.

There’s no need to book and admission is included with museum entry.

11am – 1pm & 2pm – 4pm.

Plaster Fossils

Make a fossil using plaster (under the guidance of our learning staff) and take it home to paint.

There’s no need to book and admission is included with museum entry.

York Museum Garden Tours

Venue: York Museum Gardens

Meet inside the Museum Street gates and gain an insight into one of the most popular gardens in York. The gardens contain a wealth of plant life, botanical specimens and wildlife, as well as the spectacular ruins of St Mary’s Abbey and the Roman Multangular Tower. Our knowledgeable guides will show you the highlights of this truly unique garden.

Tours start at 1pm every Sunday and last approximately one hour.

Free, no need to book.
