Museum Monkeys Specials - Ancient Civilisations

Discover what we have to offer for under 5s in our drop in Museum Monkeys sessions. Find out about ancient Egyptians, Romans and Greeks through play. Find Medusa’s eye in the ball pool, wrap the mummy and build a Roman arch way.

This activity takes place 11:00am – 1:00pm and 2:00pm – 4:00pm on 3, 4, 10 and 11 March 2018.

York Museum Garden Tours

Meet inside the Museum Street gates and gain an insight into one of the most popular gardens in York. The gardens contain a wealth of plant life, botanical specimens and wildlife, as well as the spectacular ruins of St Mary’s Abbey and the Roman Multangular Tower. Our knowledgeable guides will show you the highlights of this truly unique garden.

Tours start at 1pm every Sunday and last approximately one hour.

Our Relaxed Openings are designed for visitors who would prefer a quieter visit to the art gallery.

The gallery provides a tranquil, spacious environment for visitors to explore without the need to worry about extreme light and sound levels, confined spaces, or large crowds. Our building is fully accessible (including the cafe, shops, toilets and outside space), and our Welcome Team have received training in assiting visitors with additional needs.

There are plenty of areas where you can sit down and relax, and a designated quiet space should you need it. Our Welcome Team will be happy to help with any queries you may have.

There will also be a drop-in Art for Wellbeing session and a sensory tour on the day.

Our Art for Wellbeing session will be from 1.30pm to 3.30pm. Join in and release your creative energy in the company of others, with gentle guidance on hand. This is an inclusive session, suitable for all abilities (16+ only). Free with admission, no need to book.

Our sensory tour will be from 12.30pm to 1.15pm and will explore the work and life of artist Paul Nash. Everyone over 16 is welcome to attend but the tour is especially suited to blind or partially sighted visitors. Free with admission, please click here to book.

The event is free for visitors with autism, dementia, visual impairments or similar issues. Carers and children under 16 will also be admitted for free. Accompanying members of a group will be admitted for £4, and standard admission is £7.50. There is no need to book ahead.
