Join one of our costumed guides on our famous Victorian street Kirkgate every day at 11.45am and 3.00pm for a free 15 minute informal talk.

Each talk is different but will provide an introduction to Kirkgate, the history of York Castle Museum, and the objects on display, as well as the people who lived and worked in York during the Victorian period of 1870-1901.

Please note that talks are subject to the availability of our guides.

CANCELLED - A Spoonful of Sugar: Medicines and Essences

Join us on Kirkgate to hear York’s very own chocolate expert Sophie Jewett (York Cocoa House) as she leads us on a journey exploring the role of food in medicine, and how this changed with the arrival of cocoa. Learn about some of confectionery’s early origins in the world of the apothecary and chemist and watch a demonstration of period medicinal confectionery.
