Open throughout Season of Drawing for self-led activity

Our drawing studio at York Art Gallery is a welcoming space for people to create, learn, and share their artwork. It is a space for people of all ages and skill levels to be inspired by our Season of Drawing exhibitions and have a go at drawing! You can try sketching your surroundings, drawing from reference photos or still-life objects, or experimenting with different mediums such as pencils, markers, or paints.

You can expect a range of drawing materials, equipment and prompts to help boost your creativity. Twice a month we will be joined by experienced drawing artists who will offer guidance, support and super fun ways to get involved. For more info on these activities look at the YAG events page.

Drawing workshops are an excellent opportunity for beginners and advanced artists alike to refine their skills and improve their artistry. These workshops provide a supportive environment where participants can learn from our experienced instructor Rob Oldfield.

Over five sessions, you will explore different subjects. In the first three workshops, the focus will be on the parts of a figure, namely heads, hands, and feet. The subsequent workshops will concentrate on still-life, where one workshop will be dedicated to natural forms, and another will be focused on man-made forms. Join all five sessions or just one.

The workshops are structured in a way that allows participants to work at their own pace and level, while also receiving guidance and feedback from the instructor.

Join artist Jo Blaker for an anarchic celebration of breaking the rules of drawing. Each session Jo will help you to break a different drawing rule through experimental, playful and exciting activities to help you find more enjoyment and freedom in drawing!
