Open throughout Season of Drawing for self-led activity

Our drawing studio at York Art Gallery is a welcoming space for people to create, learn, and share their artwork. It is a space for people of all ages and skill levels to be inspired by our Season of Drawing exhibitions and have a go at drawing! You can try sketching your surroundings, drawing from reference photos or still-life objects, or experimenting with different mediums such as pencils, markers, or paints.

You can expect a range of drawing materials, equipment and prompts to help boost your creativity. Twice a month we will be joined by experienced drawing artists who will offer guidance, support and super fun ways to get involved. For more info on these activities look at the YAG events page.

Art activities to release your creative energy!
Set in the beautiful surroundings of York Art Gallery’s Studio space, this 2 hour workshop gives opportunity for discovery and time to explore a variety of art materials and inspiring themes designed to promote wellbeing.
Enjoy the company of others, creating art with gentle guidance from artist Griselda Goldsbrough.  For adults (16+ only) and running one Sunday each month, there is no need to book for this workshop, session will start at 10:30am and run for approximately 2 hours, it is a practical art session which is suitable for all abilities.

Father Christmas will be at York Castle Museum every weekend throughout December until Christmas Eve, with performances throughout the day.
A figure the Victorians may have known well, Father Christmas at the Castle Museum will be the green-clad, white-bearded man known for bringing fun and jollity to Christmas, talking of food, feasting, games, dancing and songs. Visitors will be welcome to join in, and to make their own Christmas tree card with suggestions for fun, silliness and how to show kindness to friends and strangers over the festive period.
Included in museum admission, suitable for all ages

At regular intervals throughout the day.
‘Celebrate Christmas with this performance inspired by traditional Christmas Carol singers: featuring classic ditties from the period (such as ‘O, Christmas Tree’, ‘God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen’ and ‘Hark the Herald’), certain to get everyone in the festive spirit! With comic interludes between songs of days gone by, the Same Difference Arts Carollers will bring smiles to faces and warm hearts on even the coldest day.’

Based in West Yorkshire, Same Difference Arts are well known for their engaging and interactive outdoor theatre. Alongside fantastical stilt walkers, hilarious walkabout acts and enchanting Carol Singers, their new Christmas show ‘Robin Hood’ will be touring venues across North Yorkshire and Leeds this winter.
