Enjoy live performances which respond to the works in this unique and experimental exhibition, and provide exciting ways to engage with art.

Dance artists Hannah and Drew Wintie-Hawkins of York Dance Space have been working with an intergenerational cast of local people to make performance interventions which respond to the exhibition. The performances will take place throughout the day.

Join York Dance Space at York Art Gallery for a friendly and creative workshop inspired by When All is Quiet.

In this exciting workshop, use the art and creative space around you as inspiration to create movement and dance.

The workshop is suitable for children ages 5yrs+ with an accompanying adult. No previous dance experience necessary, but please wear loose and comfortable clothes suitable to move in.

Please note: you only need to book tickets for children and not guardians, with a maximum of 2 guardians per child.

York Observatory Open Day – Sat 23 Feb 2019

Venue: York Museum Gardens

Built in 1832 and 1833 and restored in 1981, York Observatory (which is nestled in York Museum Gardens) is the oldest working observatory in Yorkshire.

It houses a 4inch refractor telescope made by Thomas Cooke in 1850.

Opening hours are subject to the availability of volunteers, so please contact us ahead of your visit.

Our open days are free and there’s no need to book.

Automaton Clock: Talk and Demonstration – Sat 23 Feb 2019

Join us for this talk on the Automaton Clock, an extravagant clock featuring moving figures and sound.

In this talk, we’ll discuss this fascinating clock and what we know about its history. Afterwards, we’ll activate the clock so you can see its many decorations brought to life.

The talk starts at 2pm, will last between 5-10 minutes and is included with your gallery admission. For our admission prices, please see our visitor information page.
