Join artist Francesca King at York Art Gallery for a clay workshop, with well-being and Gainsborough’s fascination with nature in mind. Gainsborough observed his natural surroundings, creating landscape textural paintings and detailed drawings. Can we walk in his shoes? We will try, by taking clay outside and exploring the textures of our environment, forming physical ‘impressions’ and traces in the clay from different natural and manmade found surfaces.

Moving inside to the Studio, Francesca will support and guide our barefoot practice, pressing our feet into the clay textures and move onto immersing our feet in clay. Your works will be bisque fired for you and ready to collect mid January.

Francesca King Ceramics was founded in 2016 & focused on textural surfaces in portraiture & tiles. In October 2020 Francesca completed her Masters in Fine Art. In 2021 the interactive clay experience “Feet in Clay” was awarded a York Open Studios bursary.

All materials and firing costs are included.

Please note this session is for over 18’s only
