Early Years Explorers: Portraits – Thu 9 Jun 2016

Date: Thursday 9 June 2016, 10:00 am - 11:00 am
Venue: York Art Gallery

York Art Gallery – Early Years Explorers (two – five years old)

Activities for children aged two to five years old which include songs, stories, games and craft activities. Sessions are based on familiar preschool play areas, which are enhanced to help children learn about the museum’ collections and exhibitions through play. Sessions are a mixture of free flow and adult led activities which all relate to the Early Years curriculum.

 

Portraits – Thursday 9th June, 10am – 11am

Try on hats and look in the mirrors to paint a self-portrait. Listen to the hats story.

 

Museum Monkeys Events for the under 5s – sessions are FREE and run team time only.

Museum admission applies, FREE with valid YMT card.

Join one of our knowledgeable volunteers every Tuesday and Thursday for a free talk from 12pm. The subject will vary but will relate to one of the displays in the museum.

Shaping the Body Debate! – Thu 9 Jun 2016

Venue: York Castle Museum

Join us for a lively and passionate debating event on the subject of body shape, and the various factors which impact on it. This is part of the Festival of ideas and will be held in the new gallery space. In association with the Institute for the Public Understanding of the Past (University of York).

Doors open from 6.30pm for visitors to see the exhibition. debate starts at 7.30pm.

Where is York’s Lost Amphitheatre? – Thu 9 Jun 2016

Venue: Yorkshire Museum

Where did the Roman gladiators fight in York? It’s a question that children, students, archaeologists, academics and almost every curious person in York and beyond asks.

Join us for an entertaining, informative, fun event akin to X-factor meets Time Team as we try to find out more. Competing teams will dig deep in their knowledge of the city to come up with some genius ideas of where York’s amphitheatre might lie.

You will decide who is the most convincing! This promises to be one of the most exciting and entertaining archaeological events of the year.

At the end of the evening the audience vote for the winning team. The victorious team then have an opportunity to research and test out their ideas before reporting back at next year’s Festival of Ideas.

This event forms part of the University of York Festival of Ideas 2016 and the Eboracum Roman Festival 2016.
