New Days for the York’s Sweet Past: A taste of success – the Inspirational Mary Ann Craven
Due to unforeseen circumstances new days have been released for the Festival Ideas event: York’s Sweet Past: A Taste of Success – the inspiration Mary Ann Craven.
This will now not take place on June 8 and 12.
It will run all weekdays until June 15 from 11am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm.
The event enable visitors to delve into York’s sweet past and meet our costumed confectioner Mary Ann Craven on our Victorian cobbled street, Kirkgate.
Find out how Mary – famous for her French almonds and boiled sweets – became a successful businesswoman in a male orientated Victorian world. Then join us as we bring history to life through your taste buds with confectionery demonstrations in the Castle kitchen. You may even get to sample some delicious sweet treats!
Suitable for all ages.
The character actor will be on the first floor of the Museum which is accessible by ramp. The Castle kitchen is accessible by stairs only. Further information on access at York Castle Museum is available here.

A distant member of the Craven family lives in London and I have written to him about the plaque. He used to be the finance director at the Nether Poppleton factory, Candyland.
