- Description
- From the 9th to the 12th September 2002 York Archaeological Trust carried out an archaeological excavation of modern dumping and natural flood deposits within Pikeing Well, New Walk, York. This followed a desktop study and evaluation excavated in July 1999. During the excavation similar dumps of modern material and flood deposits were encountered as were seen in 1999, though there was no further evidence of the ornate iron gates found then. The excavations revealed the whole of the original floor of the structure to be intact and revealed how the spring overflowed to an external drain once the water tank was filled.
