Description
Circular pendant with Crucifixion scene on one side and the pieta on the other. An oval piece of carved jet with a lozenge shaped knop at the top which is pierced to act as a suspension loop. Both faces have a raised border with a relief image; Jesus on the cross on one face and the Madonna and child on the other. The carving is crude and the oval is slightly lop sided. The depiction of Jesus inlcudes a figure on either side of him and could be interpreted as the Crucifixion (Christ with the Virgin and St John) or the Depostion (Christ with Mary and Nicodemus).
