- Description
- Carved head of a person with simple inscription at the base. Described in Eboracum as "Head of a young man, 10ins by 1ft 8ins, freestanding and set diagonally on a square base and derived from the corner of a tomb or its precinct wall. His hair is swept back in tongue-like locks, with the base of a tongue-like feather at the apex, indicating that the figure was one of the winds. The inscription, on the two adjacent faces below the head, reads on the left D(IS) M(ANIBVS) and, on the right, C(ONSECRATVM) E(ST) 'This is consecrated to the spirits of the departed'."
