- Description
- Decorated, glazed. Described in Harvey Brook's unpublished catalogue as "Another corner fragment of a Percy tile bearing the devise of the crescent brooch, not so good a specimen. This tile has a large patch of soft caly upon its surface above the finished salt glaze, but the orange brown (burnt sienna) ground colour, as well as the orange-ochre colour of the pattern gives it a vivid and fresh appearance. It is of great solidity... but has been rejected as a "waster", otherwise it gives a good idea of the apparent indestructablity, combined with aesthetic beauty, of the floors of this period." The patch of clay on the upper surface of the tile could well be a stacking scar.
