Description
Fine white muslin, embroidered with a regular pattern of floral motifs in blue-black and yellow silk, gold-coloured metal thread and gold-coloured plate (possibly silver-gilt). Neck and front edges, hem edge and wrists are all piped with thin yellow silk. Close-fitting bodice, the extended fronts wrapping right over left, kimono-style. High, v-shaped neckline, with a self-fabric collar band. The front edges of the bodice and the collar band are faced with plain white bias-cut muslin. Very long, narrow sleeves, set plainly onto the bodice. (This was meant to be worn pushed up so that the gathers show on the lower arm.) Very full, ankle-length skirt, set onto the bodice in tight gathers except across the left front, where it is set on plainly. The skirt is made from several full-width panels of fabric, with the addition of long narrow gores at the front edges. The side-seams are open for 18cm. from the hem. Both front and hem edges are faced with plain white bias-cut muslin.
