The Morris & Co. wallpaper logbooks are one of the treasures of the Sanderson Design Group Archive. Kept by Jeffrey & Co., the manufacturer who printed the wallpapers for Morris & Co., as a record of every version of every design that was put into production, they are both visually pleasing and historically significant. In this talk I will discuss the logbooks, how and why they were compiled, and what they reveal about the wallpapers produced by Morris & Co. I will explore how the firm’s wallpapers developed over time, focusing especially upon their use of special finishes, including embossed, flocked and metallic effects.
