Every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday from 16 November until Christmas Eve, with performances throughout the day.

A figure the Victorians may have known well, Father Christmas at the Castle Museum will be the green-clad, white-bearded man known for bringing fun and jollity to Christmas, talking of food, feasting, games, dancing and songs as well as his many different guises, companions and modes of transport across the world!
Visitors will be welcome to join in for fun, silliness and how to show kindness to friends and strangers over the festive period.

Please note this is not a meet Father Christmas experience.

Spread a little home-made festive cheer this year with hand printed Christmas cards!

Be transported to Christmas in the Victorian era – where Christmas cards first began…In this special three-hour workshop we will take inspiration from the magical setting of Kirkgate, the museum’s Victorian street. You will see the street dressed for Christmas and puzzle at some of the weird and wonderful cards Victorians invented.

Experienced teacher and artist, Becky Long-Smith will take you step-by-step through the process of creating your own lino printed cards.

Refreshments and all materials will be provided.

*Admission to York Castle Museum is included for the day of the workshop only.

During this workshop you will learn the art of block printing onto fabric from creating a design, carving onto a wooden block and printing techniques for fabric. You’ll then print your chosen design onto an organic cotton tote bag or tea towel to take away with you along with your unique printing block to continue printing at home.
All materials will be provided. No experience is necessary.
Ages 16+ (under 18 must be accompanied by an adult)
Aidan is a textile printer and maker based in Yorkshire with a goal to create fabrics and pieces for the home which last and are loved for a whole lifetime. Through her work she believes that the creative process and things we have in our home should be kind to the planet and celebrate a slower way of making and consuming of products celebrating craftmanship and the handmade.
