Monsters in the Making

Dates: Saturday 14 March 2020–Sunday 15 March 2020, All Day
Venue: York Art Gallery

There’s a mini monster! Where? There! WHERE? In the artist garden….

This activity offers the excitement of discovering a monster hidden in the Artist Garden, and the opportunity to create your own individual narratives and a 3D friend for your found monster. Be encouraged to develop stories and make your own clay creation back in the Learning Studio. Where did you spot your monster? Did you take a photo of them? What do they look like? What do they like to eat? Is your Monster good at art? Is that why they were in the artist garden or perhaps they like to sit and look at the shapes in clouds/a day dreamer? Free family friendly drop in work shop. All material included. Gallery admission applies.

Meet Dick Turpin! – Sat 14 Mar 2020

Meet Dick Turpin!

Dates: Saturday 14 March 2020–Sunday 15 March 2020, 11:00 am - 4:00 pm
Venue: York Castle Museum

Highwayman Dick Turpin, was held in the prison buildings which now house York Castle Museum for the last six months of his life, and would have spent his last few hours alive in the Condemned Cell. Although known as a highwayman and a robber, he was sentenced to death for horse stealing and was hanged at York’s Knavesmire. On certain weekends throughout February and March; Turpin, alias actor Gary Goldthorpe, will be in the spooky cell telling families about his exploits.

Timings for each day are: 11am – 1pm & 2pm – 4pm
No need to book, just drop-in.
Admission applies.

Low Sensory Experiences – Sun 15 Mar 2020

Date: Sunday 15 March 2020, All Day
Venue: York Art Gallery

Our Low Sensory Experiences are designed for visitors who would prefer a quieter visit to the art gallery.

The gallery provides a tranquil, spacious environment for visitors to explore without the need to worry about extreme light and sound levels, confined spaces, or large crowds. Our building is fully accessible (including the shops, toilets and outside space), and some of our Visitor Experience Team have received training in assisting visitors with additional needs.

There are plenty of areas where you can sit down and relax, and a designated quiet space should you need it. Our Visitor Experience Team will be happy to help with any queries you may have.

Events are free for visitors with autism, dementia, visual impairments or similar issues. Carers and children under 16 will also be admitted for free. Accompanying members of a group will be admitted for £4, and standard admission is £8. There is no need to book ahead.

York Museum Garden Tours

Date: Sunday 15 March 2020, 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Venue: York Museum Gardens

Meet inside the Museum Street gates and gain an insight into one of the most popular gardens in York. The gardens contain a wealth of plant life, botanical specimens and wildlife, as well as the spectacular ruins of St Mary’s Abbey and the Roman Multangular Tower. Our knowledgeable guides will show you the highlights of this truly unique garden.

Tours start at 1pm every Sunday and last approximately one hour.

Free, no need to book.
