- Description
- Tea bowl and saucer in blue and white with transfer print decoration of a blue dragon which winds out of the tea bowl interior and round the sides of the bowl. It is known as the 'blue dragon' or the 'Broseley blue dragon' pattern and was a subject used by Caughley Porcelain works in the late eighteen century. It derives from the Chines dragon, introduced by Thomas Turner in 1780 and is thought to have been engraved by Thomas Minton. It is still in use today and several variations are known. It is different from the dragon motifs used by the Bow and Worcester factories (which featured a dragon with an arrow protruding from its mouth instead of a tounge).
