- Description
- Tea bowl and saucer with transfer printing decoration in underglaze blue with European / western landscapes within round and oval cartouches. Similar motifs are repeated on the large border below the rim. This pattern still contains an element of Chinoiserie seen in the boat and the bridge, the diaper and the fret work on the border. However the landscape is very much western and denotes the late eighteenth century shift towards more European decoration. See YORCM : 2007.423 for similar pattern of Chinoiserie motifs from an earlier period.
