- Description
- A tomb, composed of 18 tiles, 7ft. 6in. long, discovered in 1833, near Dringhouses, on the road to Tadcaster,
formed of roof-idles (tegula) and ridge-tiles (imbrices), which bear the impress of the Sixth Legion,LEG. VI. VI.
Erected, it is probable, over the ashes of a soldier of that legion. Nothing was found in it but a layer of the remains of a funeral pile, consisting of charcoal and bones, about six inches in thickness, with several iron nails. — Mr Eshelby, 1888.
