The History of Party Food

Visit York Castle Museum as our 80th birthday celebrations continue! Discover the history of party foods such as chocolate and how they are used for celebrations, and watch demonstrations in the Castle Kitchen – you might even get to try some! Included in admission, no need to book.

Celebration Trail

Celebrate our 80th anniversary by following and solving celebratory clues around the museum. Enter your completed trail into a prize draw with the opportunity to win a special gift. 50p per trail (admission applies), no need to book.

If You’re Happy and You Know it
26 May – 3 June, 11am – 1pm and 2 – 4pm
Making art can improve your wellbeing. Drop in to the Studio to paint, draw, doodle and relax. All ages welcome. Included in admission, no need to book.

Eboracum Roman Festival
Daily 1 – 3 June
Join us at the Yorkshire Museum and Gardens for the return of the Romans! Enjoy a variety of family-friendly displays, exhibits, events and activities including military parades, expert talks, guided walks, and a camp showing what domestic life was like. Most of the festival is free but there may be a charge and pre-booking required for some activities – click here for details.
A Legionary’s Life
26 May – 3 June, 11am – 1pm and 2 – 4pm
Be put through your paces as you take part in our recruitment process to see if you measure up to be enlisted into the Roman Army. Learn about Lucius, Standard Bearer for the Ninth Legion, and make your own Eagle of the Ninth standard. Included in admission, no need to book.
Roman Museum Monkeys
2 and 3 June, 11am – 1pm and 2 – 4pm
Discover what we have to offer for under 5s in our drop-in Museum Monkeys sessions. Dress up as a Roman soldier, make a mosaic picture and build a Roman arch. Included in admission, no need to book.
