Description
Suit of 3/4 Cuirassier armour painted black. A very unusual suit as the arm and leg armour is leather made in imitation of steel. Helmet is a todenkopf style with no face piece. Some deformation of the leather due to shrinkage. Leather has had unknown treatments leaving it oily to the touch. The tasset for right leg is constructed of 18 individual leather lames. On the upper part of the poleyn, the side and below are decorated with a star shaped design of 21 rivets. The piece is secured and articulated by means of rivets. On the uppermost lame is a leather strap and buckle for securing it to its partner. On the inside of the knee are two leather straps, one with a buckle, for securing the piece to the wearer's leg. The entire piece is painted black. Constructed to resemble a steel tasset.
