KIRKGATE VICTORIAN CHRISTMAS

26 November – 24 December 2016, daily.

Stroll along our beautifully decorated cobbled street, Kirkgate. Meet our Victorian residents and discover the stories behind the traditions of Christmas.

Free with admission, no need to book.

 

TEXTILES: EMBELLISHED CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS

26 November 2016, 10.30am – 3.30pm.

Dive into over-the-top embellishment using buttons, beads and stitches to create a unique Christmas decoration. We will look at contemporary and historic stitch samples with tutor Helen Young. Experiment with different materials and embellishments and practice new stitches. We’ll complete a lovely embellished Christmas decoration using bondaweb, stitching and lots of buttons and beads, along with sample pieces to use as inspiration at home.

Suitable for anyone from complete beginners to more experienced stitchers.

£38 per person (plus £4 on the day to cover the cost of materials).

A CHRISTMAS MYSTERY

3 & 4 December, 10 & 11 December, 17 to 24 December 2016, daily.

Children will follow a special Christmas mystery trail around the museum to discover the traditions and magic of a Victorian Christmas, meeting costumed characters and solving festive puzzles before finally finding where Father Christmas is waiting for them!

£5 per child (includes activity booklet, meeting Father Christmas and a traditional Christmas gift).

Museum admission applies for adults, no need to book.

 

CHARLES DICKENS – A CHRISTMAS CAROL

5 – 7, 10 – 11 and 14 – 18 December 2016, 7pm.

Walk along the cobbles of Kirkgate at York Castle Museum for an immersive and intimate production that will bring the magic of this much-loved Dickens Christmas classic to life. Find the true meaning of Christmas with Ebineezer Scrooge and enjoy a glass of wine and a mince pie in these enchanting surroundings.

Tickets: Adult £20, Child £10. Includes mince pie and a glass of wine or a soft drink.

Back by popular demand, Chris Cade will perform his unique one man family show of A Christmas Carol under the garlands of our Victorian street, Kirkgate. Join our Ebenezer Scrooge as he discovers the true meaning of Christmas!
