Queer your Labels! – Sat 27 Nov 2021

How can we use our identities and experiences to reveal stories often made invisible? How can we navigate using current LGBTQI terms for historical figures and artists? And what does it even mean to represent your gender identity and expression in an artwork – or its label? Join curator and educator Claire Mead to look at objects in the collection from a queer angle. Come chat about representation and “just gals being pals” in art and museums. And take part in a writing workshop to make your own labels for re-queered artworks!
Claire‘s practice looks at uncovering LGBTQI narratives and women’s histories in museums. She has done so via exhibitions, videos, educational resources and even drag king performance! She has worked with The National Gallery, Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art, The Museum of London and The Vagina Museum.
This session is open to LGBTQI+ community and Allies. Refreshments will be provided. Please email Sas at Sarah.Yates@ymt.org.uk to book your place.
