The sceptre head in the Ryedale Hoard depicts the Emperor Marcus Aurelius. Through objects like this the names and faces of the Emperors would be well known to the citizens of Roman York. More than once was York visited by a reigning Emperor and this would have had a profound influence on the city. In this talk Lucy Creighton, Curator of Archaeology at the Yorkshire Museum will explore the relationship of Roman York to its Emperors.
