York Castle Museum
Street’s Alive – Up Our Street
Be amazed as Kirkgate comes alive, sending visitors to a forgotten age. Who will you meet ‘Up Our Street?’
Perhaps Dolly White the washerwoman? She’s never short of gossip or chores to do, and might need help with all her washing!
Look out for all our characters across the summer and get involved in their daily lives.
Daily, 10am-1pm and 2pm-4pm.
Explore at Castle
Explore what life was like during World War One through self-guided activities, such as:
– sending information using flags (an activity called ‘Semaphore’)
– testing First Aid skills using teddy bears
– designing a campaign poster
Daily 10am-1pm and 2pm-4pm, apart from Monday 6th and Friday 17th of August.
‘When the World Changed Forever’ Trail
Follow our trail to find letters and objects in the 1914 exhibition. Discover them all for a fun sticker prize!

Yorkshire Museum
Dinosaur Detectives
Be a dinosaur detective and solve the mystery of which dinosaur has been up to no good.
Monday 13th August – Sunday 2nd September

Sea Dragons: Fact and Fiction
Learn facts and myths that surround these amazing sea creatures. Enjoy craft and drawing activities in our labs.

Plaster Fossils
Make a fossil using plaster (under the guidance of our learning staff) and take it home to paint.

Pick a Favourite: Make a Wish
Inspired by the ‘Friends of York Art Gallery’ and our 70 Years of Giving Art exhibition, choose and draw a piece of artwork in the display.
Add ideas and suggestions for new artworks to the ‘wish-list wall’ in the Studio.
There’s need to book and admission is included with gallery entry.
