York Art Gallery Project to be Presented at The Best in Heritage Conference 2017

13 June 2017

The Best in Heritage conference will bring together over 40 award-winning museum, heritage, digital and conservation projects from China, the United States, Japan, India, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Russia and Europe.

The conference will take place 28-30 September 2017 in Dubrovnik, Croatia and is a rare international platform where official, private and civil society institutions can meet.

York Art Gallery are presenting as one of 28 award-winning projects from around the world, sharing their experience of being chosen for the annual Family Friendly Museum Award from renowned UK-based children’s charity Kids in Museums in October 2016.

The conference will consist of the two day core event and IMAGINES, a one day event where a further 16 multimedia and new technology achievements will be presented. The audience, moderators, and the keynote speakers will vote for The Best in Heritage ‘Project of Influence 2017’ award for both events based on presentations from each of the nominated projects.

Representing York Art Gallery will be Gaby Lees, assistant curator of arts learning, who was part of the team behind the gallery’s Family Friendly Museum Award 2016 win and collected the award back in October. Gaby said:

“We are thrilled to have won this award and to have our endeavours recognised. We hope this will encourage even more families to come and use our creative spaces and have fun with the resources we have on offer.”

The invitation to The Best in Heritage conference comes as further praise for the gallery following its major redevelopment, having reopened to the public on 1 August 2015.
