World renowned art experts in York for Picasso events

Two internationally renowend art critics are coming to York to speak about the life and work of Pablo Picasso.

On Monday (September 4) Dr Marilyn McCully will present a lecture on Picasso’s ceramic work and his time in Madoura in the south of France. Dr McCully has organised numerous international exhibitions and written widely about Picasso and his work including the books Picasso in Paris: 1900-1907 and Picasso: Painter and Sculptor in Clay.

Then on Tuesday October 10 Gijs Van Hensbergen will consider the importance of Picasso’s work and his place in art history. Van Hensbergen is one of the world’s most respected art historians and an expert on Gaudi and Picasso. He has lectured all over the world.

Both events will take place at the Tempest Anderson Hall at the Yorkshire Museum from 6pm-7pm. Tickets must be booked in advance and cost £6.

The lectures are taking place to coincide with Picasso: Ceramics from the Attenborough Collection, which is on display at York Art Gallery until November 5 2017.
