Teenage Art School – Special Guests Announced

18 February

York Art Gallery’s Teenage Art School will be receiving a visit from some very special guests.

Members of Kaiser Chiefs will be visiting on the final day (March 1) of the 4-day course to see the work that has been produced and discuss how the artwork took its inspiration from exhibition, ‘When All is Quiet: Kaiser Chiefs in Conversation with York Art Gallery’.

This free course, which will take place at York Art Gallery on Tuesday 26 February – Friday 1 March 2019, and is aimed at 13-17 year olds, will involve working with sound artist Rebecca Glover and foley artist Sue Harding for an exciting exploration of the Gallery’s art collection through sound.

Kirstie Blything, learning manager, York Museums Trust, said: “This workshop will give invaluable experience to young artists. They will have the opportunity to work alongside sound artist Rebecca Glover and foley artist Sue Harding to learn new skills and receive advice and direction to produce work inspired by the exhibition ‘When All is Quiet: Kaiser Chiefs in Conversation with York Art Gallery’.

“Not only this, but we are extremely excited to announce that members of Kaiser Chiefs will be visiting on the final day of the course to see the work that was inspired by the exhibition that they curated and to chat to attendees about their personal highlights.”

“This is a rare and fantastic opportunity that is not to be missed!”

Using When All is Quiet as inspiration, these young artists will:

• learn how to ‘sculpt’ with sound
• imagine the ‘sonic worlds’ that different objects in our collection may have experienced
• record soundtracks inspired by our objects
• discover the world of foley recording techniques
