Step into the Griffin’s Nest – Competition for Local Young People

7 March 2016
On 9 March 2016, young entrepreneurs will face a panel of judges for the final of York Museums Trust’s competition; Griffin’s Nest. This annual competition was launched by York Museums Trust to give 14 – 19 year olds experience in real-life work scenarios.
This year, as part of the Create Your Future conference, the competition asked young people to develop an event to attract visitors to The Shambles Market between the hours of 5pm – 8pm.
Their event must promote York’s history and heritage and be used to encourage visitors to visit attractions such as York Castle Museum, the Yorkshire Museum and York Art Gallery.
Amy Baggaley, Learning Manager at York Museums Trust, said:
“The Create Your Future conference is a great opportunity for young people wanting to get into creative industries to network and take advice from some of York’s most innovative companies.
“With the final of the Griffin’s Nest competition taking place on this platform, young people are able to demonstrate skills and attributes such as effective team work, problem solving, communication and presentation skills to a room of influential local businesses, which is invaluable experience.”
Create Your Future is an initiative with York Museums Trust, Science City York, and NYBEP to help young people get a head start in the creative sector.
The conference takes place at the Hospitium in the Museum Gardens this year, and aims to promote York as a city that supports business growth and innovation whilst offering the chance to showcase and share opportunities.
