Popular Japanese exhibition to open for additional days during summer holidays 

York Art Gallery’s popular Making Waves: The Art of Japanese Woodblock Print exhibition will be open for two additional days this summer, allowing extra time to see the incredible works on display before its departure at the end of August. 

The Gallery will be open on Tuesday 4 August and Tuesday 18 August, from 10am – 5pm, in addition to the Gallery’s regular opening hours of Wednesday – Sunday, 10am – 5pm.  

These extra days are a supplement to the rich summer programme of craft activities based on the exhibition. Activities are running throughout August, details of specific events, dates and times can be found on York Art Gallery’s website.  

Over 40,000 people have already visited Making Waves, enjoying Hokusai’s ‘The Great Wave’ and other iconic artworks from Japan and beyond. There is only one month left of the exhibition, with 30 August 2026 marking the end of the incredibly successful show. Tickets are available to book online, or purchase at the Gallery on the day.
