I Love Museums – Back the Campaign!

York Museums Trust is a proud participant in I Love Museums, a new campaign led by the National Museum Directors’ Council (NMDC) to demonstrate the depth of support for UK museums by empowering you, the public, to share why museums are important to you.

Museums and galleries are more popular than ever – each year there are around 70 million visits to the national and major regional museums in the NMDC. Last year over half of all UK adults and two thirds of all children visited a museum.

Museums play a vital role in the lives of individuals, families and communities across the UK, and make a vital contribution to our sense of society, and to our economy.

But our museums are facing challenging times, with the Government’s policy of austerity being passed on through local authorities and other funding bodies. In York alone we have seen a 60% cut in local authority funding to our museums.

I Love Museums will show funders and policymakers how much museums matter by celebrating the UK public’s support for our wonderful cultural institutions.

I Love Museums provides museums with ways to help you, our visitors, actively show your support. To sign up just go to: www.ilovemuseums.com and tweet your support to #ILoveMuseums and @ILoveMuseums
