Christmas at York Castle Museum 2025

15 November 2025- 4 January 2026

Step into a festive wonderland at York Castle Museum this winter! Explore the famous Victorian Street, Kirkgate, to a soundtrack of traditional carols. Beautifully decorated trees will line the snow-covered cobblestones and fill the air with the scent of Christmas pine. Stunning period decorations will adorn the shopfronts and twinkling garlands will transport you to a Christmas reminiscent of Dickensian England.

Experience over 200 years of Christmases past in the popular Period Rooms and see how people living in Yorkshire in the 17th and 18th centuries might have decorated for the winter season. Spot well-known decorations from the 1940s and 1980s in the period kitchens and, new for 2025, York Castle Museum is also getting a Christmas makeover straight from the 1960s! The Sixties Street will feature iconic items, merry tunes and nostalgic Christmas cheer.

A range of activities will be taking place throughout the festive season, for adults and children alike. There’s something for everyone to enjoy, including live music, crafts, storytelling for all ages, as well as wreath-making and other seasonal workshops. Iconic characters such as Father Christmas, in his traditional green attire, and Scrooge will be returning to immerse visitors in a truly Victorian Christmas.

Entry to Christmas at York Castle Museum is included in your 12-month general admission ticket. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or regular returner, everyone is welcome to celebrate, learn about and immerse themselves in the historical winter festivities.
