An Evening with the Stars!

10 December 2015
York Observatory in York Museum Gardens will be open to the public on Monday 14th December for a special FREE Stargazing event.
Join York Museums Trust from 6pm- 8pm, a day ahead of British astronaut Tim Peake’s 173 day mission into space, for an evening of stargazing through the historic 1850’s Cooke telescope in the oldest working observatory in York.
Fiona Burton, volunteers manager at York Museums Trust, said:
“These are very exciting times for British space travel.
“Not only is this a fantastic opportunity for people to look for the spectacular sites of the night sky in oldest working observatory in York, but we will also have experts on hand with specimens from the museum collections and some fascinating activities too.
“So why not get wrapped up, make the most of the crisp winter evenings and come along for an evening with the stars!”
In the event of bad weather please still come; you may see something exciting during a break in the clouds!
York Observatory stargazing evenings will also take place on Thursday 14 January and Tuesday 16 Feb 2016.
