A Kirkgate Christmas Tale at York Castle Museum

DATE: 11th November 2021

Step foot into a Christmas tale at York Castle Museum this winter and rediscover all the magic of the season!

Our famous Victorian Street, Kirkgate, has been transformed into a glistening snow-covered ‘stage’ where spectacular large-scale projections present a very special Christmas story full of festive cheer.

As the theatrical curtain rises, colourful animations of Victorian puppets Annie and Tom go on an adventure to bring the magic of Christmas back to Kirkgate. Merry music fills the air and lights adorn shimmering trees to immerse you in a truly unique experience at this most wonderful time of year.

Fiona Burton, Public Engagement Manager at York Museums Trust, said: “This Christmas we have decided to transform our famous Victorian Street into a magical stage, telling a seasonal story of two children looking for some festive cheer in Victorian York. Visitors will be able to stroll through the snow-covered street, peek into the shops and watch beautiful puppet show inspired projections adorn the walls as music plays. We hope we have managed to create a truly unique and magical experience that visitors of all ages can enjoy.”

Tickets for ‘A Kirkgate Christmas Tale’ will be included within the general admission ticket, allowing visitors to explore the rest of the museum as part of their experience.

A Kirkgate Christmas Tale will take place on select days from November 13 2021 until January 2 2022.
