Description
Pair of earrings; each is a single-piece gold strip, circular in section, the terminal of each side is wrapped in a loop to the opposing terminal creating a closed hoop. Found in 1959 during building work at Holgate Villa. Associated with a skull. YAJ Vol. 60: '...in another of the workmen's trenches portions of a badly shattered skull (not preserved) were found at a depth of 6ft 6 ins below the modern surface; lying alongside it was a pair of gold earrings'.
