York Castle Museum – Sweet Talk
Come along for delicious demos, scrumptious sweet-decorating and to produce pretty packaging ahead of the new chocolate experience opening in April – Chocolate: York’s Sweet Past. Don’t forget, KIDS GO FREE at our museum.
Delicious Demos & Scrumptious Sweets
Daily, 10am – 4pm
Discover the story of sugar moulding and watch sugar plate-making being demonstrated. There will be the opportunity to mould and stamp your own designs and decorate sweets with your own messages. Admission applies, no need to book.
Chocolate Wrapped Up!
Daily, 10am – 4pm
Be inspired by the sweets and chocolate packaging of the past from the museum’s collection and make your own version to take home! Admission applies, no need to book.
Yorkshire Museum – Prepare for the Vikings
Help the Yorkshire Museum and our resident ‘Viking’ prepare for the brand new exhibition coming in May – Viking: Rediscover the Legend. Don’t forget, KIDS GO FREE at our museum.
Collecting the Vikings
23 February, 11am – 3pm
Do you have a favourite ‘Viking’ helmet, toy or book? Bring it along and tell our curators about it! They might even include your story in our major new Viking exhibition which opens in May. Free, museum admission does not apply. No need to book.
Meet a Viking!
Daily, 11am – 1pm & 2pm – 4pm
See real Viking objects and hear the stories behind them from our resident ‘Viking’. Admission applies, no need to book.
Jorvik Life Trail
Daily, 10am – 5pm
Follow the trail to find our seven Viking characters hidden around the museum. Look out for Erik, Thora, Snorri and more amongst our collection to uncover the Viking word and receive a prize! 50p per trail (admission applies), no need to book.
Curator’s Corner
Daily, 11am – 1pm & 2pm – 4pm
Learn how to arrange and display your own exhibition of replica objects in our ‘Curator’s Corner’. How will you display the items and what will you say about them? Then get crafty to create your own ‘Curator’s Collage’ using images from our Viking collection. Admission applies, no need to book.
York Art Gallery – Art Safari
Our ceramic art collection is hiding all kinds of creatures. See which animals you can find amongst our pots and have a go at making your very own clay animal to take home. Don’t forget, KIDS GO FREE at our gallery.
Ceramic Safari
Daily, 10am – 5pm
Become a jungle explorer as you search CoCA (Centre of Ceramic Art) to find animals, birds and fantastic beasts hidden among our collections. 50p per trail (admission applies), no need to book.
Create a Creature
Daily, 11am – 1pm & 2pm – 4pm
Go wild in our studio and create your own creature out of air hardening clay. Admission applies, no need to book.
