Inscribed to the god Arciaco and the Emperor's divinity. Described in Eboracum as "Altar, of gritstone, 1 ft by 2ft by 10ins, with plain back and sides... DEO ARCIACONI ET N(VMINI) AVG(V)ST(I) MAT VITALIS ORD(INATVS) V(OTVM) S(OLVIT) L(IBENS) M(ERITO) "To the god Arciaco and the Emperpr's divinity, Mat... Vitalis, centurion, paid his vow willingly and deservedly." The god Arciaco, not otheriwse known, is presumably a local deity... MAT.... the expansion is not quite certain, but Mat(ernius) is perhaps mostly likely. The final LM are ligatured."
