Ghostbusters, Gladiator and Home Alone!

Don your proton pack, enjoy an eyeball punch and watch Ghostbusters on the big screen 30 years after it was released, at the first of three themed food and film nights coming up at the Yorkshire Museum, York.

The museum is opening up its 300 seater cinema to screen the 80s classic on Friday October 31.

The evening will also include a Halloween themed buffet, complete with Mummified hot dogs (Cumberland sausages wrapped in filo pastry), spicy bat wings (devilled chicken wings) and cupcake spiders.

The second film, Gladiator, with a Roman themed buffet will take place on November 21st, followed by Home Alone and a Christmas buffet on December 11.

Jennifer Chadwick, weddings and events manager, said:

“This Halloween we thought we would mark the 30th anniversary of Ghostbusters with a special screening. A themed buffet will be included and we hope people will get into the spirit of the event by dressing up in their favourite Halloween costume.

“We want to establish the Yorkshire Museum as a place to watch cinema in a slightly different way, by creating themed nights which encourage people to have some fun and enjoy a fantastic buffet linked to the film.

The second event will be a Roman themed buffet and Gladiator, relating the museum’s strong Roman collections, while Home Alone was the top choice from the people who came last year at Christmas to watch Elf.”

Other food on the menu for the Ghostbusters night will include witches hat calzone (tomato, mozzarella and pesto), severed finger cheese straws with a devilled red pepper dipping sauce, mini pumpkin pies and homemade parkin.

All the funds raised will be put towards looking after the collections of York Museums Trust.

All of the events will start at 6:30pm, with the buffet by Bradshaws served at 6:45pm. The films will then start at 7:45pm.

Tickets cost £15 including the buffet.

Congratulations on a really innovative event concept. My only reservation is as an older person is whether it will be inter-generational or just attract young people? These could be both an excellent educational and social experience.

Hi John, thanks for your comment.

The cinema nights are aimed at all ages and it is our intention (where possible) to show films that complement our collections. The showing of the film Gladiator, does include the opportunity to explore our vast collection of Roman artefacts.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Will the Halloween event be suitable for younger children (i.e an 8yr old)?

    1. Mike Linstead |

Hello Vanya, thanks for your enquiry.

The film is classified as PG and is due to begin screening at 7.45pm. If you feel that the age certification of the film is suitable and also that it’s not too late for your children then we are more than happy to welcome you for the evening. If you would like to speak to us about anything else to do with the event or to book tickets please feel free to call us on 01904 687671 or you can email us at yorkvenues@ymt.org.uk
