York Museums Trust Opening Update
From March 18, York Castle Museum, the Yorkshire Museum and York Art Gallery will be temporarily closed until further notice, in line with the latest advice from the Government and Public Health England.
We will continue to preserve culture for you and for York, whilst caring for people’s health and wellbeing by following the latest Government advice.
New Update: York Museums Trust is continuing to follow government advice. From 5pm this evening (March 23) the Trust has sadly taken the decision to close York Museum Gardens until further notice. The recent fine weather has seen large numbers of people using the space, putting social distancing measures at risk. This unprecedented step is to ensure the health and wellbeing of our visitors, volunteers and staff.
We will be maintaining regular checks of the Garden during this period.
We will also be cancelling all programmed activities and events for the next twelve weeks. This includes, Easter and Spring Bank holiday activities and the annual Eboracum Roman Festival. For updates on any private events booked through York Venues please contact them on 01904 687671 or [email protected].
This is a rapidly changing situation but we will use our website, social media and further newsletters to update you on any developments which may affect the cultural assets in our care. We also aim to share our fabulous collections through our social feeds to bring a little bit of brightness to you in these uncertain times. Now may be a good time to explore the wealth of collections available via our website.
As a charity we aim to inspire, share and care for York’s fantastic cultural heritage. The majority of our income comes from ticket and membership sales so we know that closing for an indefinite period will have a very significant negative impact on our sustainability. We hope that you will understand the need for our decision and support us going forward by making a donation. To do so, please contact a member of our Membership and Fundraising team on (07730) 642908.
Your ongoing support is crucial to our survival.
Thank you for your support to date, stay safe and look after each other.
